Over the past six months since we moved here we have experienced quite a few power outages due to trees falling down during storms. I think we have lost power about six times.
Luckily, when the power has gone out it is usually only out for a couple of hours. We have a well and unfortunately when the power goes out so does our water pump. This is new to us as we aren't used to not having water when there is a power outage. So this is forcing us to be a little more prepared!
We had a winter storm on Tuesday night that started with thunder and lightening and wind. And later turned into a blizzard. Grace heard a loud sound and called me into her room. A few minutes later we had no power. It was so dark! Ben was not home yet. Camille and Seth were in the kitchen. Gabe was all alone in my bedroom. Grace and I were in her room. We couldn't see a thing and I had to go and collect everyone. Of course, each of them was in their own state of confusion. You can imagine the screams coming from each room! Anyway, we found some candles, started a fire in our fireplace, and cuddled on the couch. It was actually quite fun for all of us once we all were located and together in one room!
In the fall, the tree trimmers came to trim the trees from the wires to help prevent outages. They left the logs in our woods but we now have to cut them up for firewood. Today we invested in a sledge hammer and wedge. Ben and Seth ventured out with the new tools and started the process. Here are a couple of pictures.

Scary but fun! I like it every once in a while to have the power out and feel the still and quiet.
